Just like going to your general physician, taking an active part in your routine dental exams can help your visit be most productive. Today, our dentist, Dr. Paul R. Downing, DMD would like to share some easy tips to help you make the most of your next dental appointment.

The first thing you can do begins before your appointment. Take a moment to make a list of any concerns you have about your smile health. Here is a short list of things to consider:

— Are you having issues with tooth sensitivity?
— Do you grind your teeth at night? Do you wake up with a sore jaw?
— Do you have bleeding when you brush your teeth or floss them?
— Do you have any sores in the mouth?
— Do you have tooth pain or pain in the gums?
— Do your gums bleed when you brush?

Writing these down before you come in means you won’t forget anything and it also allows us to spend more time evaluating these concerns, so nothing is missed.

You will also want to let us know if you have any new medical conditions since your last visit, and any medications you have begun taking for them. You should also include any new supplements you are taking regularly now. If you have dry mouth, are pregnant, or have diabetes, it will help our team to know this to give you the best care we can.

We are happy to address any oral health questions you have as well, as far as maintaining your healthy smile in between visits. We can review brushing and flossing techniques as needed, and give you recommendations for products to make your at-home care easier and most effective.
